Schooling your horse is fundamental to any equestrian pastime, so getting it right is essential to the horse and rider's progression. With 101 Schooling Exercises, you can plan the exercises you want to ride according to the level of you and your horse's ability. Whether to increase your horse's balance, generate impulsion or for more advanced lateral exercises, the easy-to-follow exercises include all the information you need to ride the movement correctly, what may go wrong and advice on how to correct it. Each exercise is accompanied by an aerial illustration of the arena and additional diagrams showing the rider's position including where the emphasis should be on the rider's aids. Celebrities from the equestrian world also divulge their favourite training exercises including celebrity tips and advice.

I had already bought the 101 exercises for the derssage horse and rider and was very impressed however my firend was not very experienced and needed something a bit more explanatory, this book was fantastic, it explains how to sit on the horse how to ask for the exercise and how to check that what you are feeling is correct. Needless to say I have bought another one for my friend and kept this one, and have also recommended it to all my friends.

The title of the book is pretty self explanatory as to what it is about - 101 Schooling Exercises for Horse and Rider. The book is easily laid out with very useful, easy to follow exercises complete with diagrams and instructions. It is compiled into chapters for specific areas that you may wish to tackle, e.g straightness, control, strengthening the canter etc. It has a quick reference guide at the beginning for particular exercises for targeting specific problems, e.g, canter ransititions, slowing down a speedy horse etc.

For each exercise it tells you step by step how to ride the exercise, the aims and objectives, what should happen, what shouldn't happen and if it does, how to correct the problem. It gives very clear instructions for lateral work, and how the rider should apply the aids, and the diagrams are so clear.

It is a fool proof book and is very informative.
I would say the book is not aimed at the complete beginner, but is aimed at the rider wishing to improve their riding and schooling, and each exercise has a rating as to which level it is suitavle for: beginners, preliminary, novice, elementary and medium. The celebrity exercises are particularly enlightening.
